We walked up two flights of elaborate stairs into the after party of the Make-A-Wish Ball. The walkway into the venue was covered with S&M themed dancers climbing up and down the walls and each other. As we entered the room, we were met by a runway lined with go-go dancers wearing Marie Antoinette inspired wigs and barely covered by red roses and crystals glued to their bodies. The bar was covered with models in gladiator style headpieces who were prohibited from talking to anybody.
I was curious as to who would be at this event. I knew there was no chance that 7 college kids would fit in, but I was not sure who would fit in here. So I began talking to the other guests. It seemed that every person I met was middle-aged and from somewhere other than Miami-- usually New York City. They just live here part time for business or leisure. I wondered why none of these big time business moguls were locals. I still have not figured out a good answer to the question. It appeared to me that every man went to this event with no other intention than to show off his wife and network with the other people there for the same reasons. The only thing on people's minds was money. No one once mentioned the charity this event was supposed to benefit.
